The Aim of the course

The overall aim of this course is to enable participants to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes which will enable them to transform their companies through Strategic Leadership. Participants will; through the creation and communication of vision and mission, to achieve world-class standards of performance. A key feature of the course is the bringing together, uniquely, of three important strands in senior executive development:

  • personal assessment and development of leadership qualities necessary for the development of high performing organizations; professional skills and knowledge in the area of Strategic Leadership and world class performance through both organization analysis and practical in-company experience;
  • organizational development through an intensive coaching relationship with participants in the context of their own organizations, culminating in the preparation of a personal development project at the end of the course.

Objectives

The overall objective of the course is to produce Leaders who can:

  • demonstrate personal development through an understanding of the concept and application of Strategic Leadership;
  • begin the process of implementing Strategic Leadership through a process of organizational change and development within their organizations

Course Duration

6 Days off site residential from 9 AM to 17.30 PM
Each day consists of four sessions.

Day 1:  Characteristics & Skills of the strategic Leader

  • Course introduction: objectives, programme and training approach
  • Introduce Strategic Leadership; Its evolution and where we are today vis-à-vis management
  • The building blocks of strategic leadership – Strategic Thinkingà Strategic Planning / Learning à Strategic Action
  • Characteristics of a strategic leader, how do we identify them and measure them – MBTI.

Day 2:  Strategic Thinking Process

  • Introduction to “What is Strategic Thinking? – Individual Vs Group
  • How do we do strategic thinking in Organizations
  • Exercise on strategic thinking
  • The link between Strategic Thinking and Strategic Planning

Day 3: The Planning / Learning process of the Strategic Leader

  • How does the Strategic Leader get the organization behind strategic visions
  • Revision of the vision of an organization.
  • Planning – from Vision to Positioning
    External Analysis and the tools which can be used
  • Lessons learned and experience gained from own history

Day 4: How to ensure translate Positioning into a successful reality

  • Creating the Mission
  • How to live the Mission
  • Introduction to communication skills
  • Communicating / marketing your position (7Ps-model)

Day 5: Matching position with organizational capacities

  • Models and Tools for capacity assessment
  • -Planning for capacity building
  • Change management and situational leadership
  • Power & Politics

Day 6: Monitoring of strategic plans

  • What do we Monitor (progress, relevance and success)
  • Formulating Strategic Monitoring Questions
  • Design of information flow
  • Personal Action Plan of the Participants
